New Bass Trombone Equipment: George Roberts Leadpipe

First, let me say that I’m usually all for Edwards trombones and all of their various accoutrements, but I recently switched to a fantastic, non-Edwards leadpipe.  I procured this particular leadpipe from M/K Drawing & Bending in Elkhorn, WI.  M/K does mostly trumpet work, but just started making this particular bass trombone leadpipe.  They recently purchased a lot of various tools from the former Olds factory, and  in that lot was the mandrel used to make the leadpipe for the George Roberts model bass trombone by Olds (model #P22) in the 1960’s-70’s.  Well, M/K is now making replica Roberts model leadpipes in brass, rose brass, and soon to be silver.  I tried both the brass and rose brass, and LOVE the rose brass model!  The Roberts pipe is more open and resonant on the low end than the silver B3 made by Edwards that I had played for years and is even and focused in the high register.  I can’t recommend them highly enough.  If you are interested in acquiring one, please contact Mike Bulow at M/K.

I have an OLDS P22 that I am looking to sell. Serial number is #990686. Do you have any information as to what I should be asking for this horn? It is used (obviously) and could you an overall cleaning and greasing, but aside for a couple of dings it looks to be in fine condition.

What else do I need to know about this model?

    Thanks,
    Tom
